Situated in southern part of the Island, Hikkaduwa can be undoubtedly named as the tourism hub of Sri Lanka. It is about 17Km from the Southern city “Galle”. Since the colonial period Hikkaduwa has been THE preferred and quick getaway from the busy city life. Hikkaduwa beach is surrounded by a natural coral reef which makes it an ideal surf spot. It is common to see the many surf schools and paddy diving clubs around the area run by the local surfers and divers. Hikkaduwa is also famous for many of it’s local reggae followers anyone who visits Hikkaduwa will realise this after seeing so many things coloured in Red, Yellow and Green. Hikkaduwa was effected heavily by the 2004 Boxing day tusnami but being Sri Lankans people still hold the biggest smile on their face for anyone visits area. Since the year 2009 Hiikkaduwa hosts reportedly the biggest beach festival in South Asia Called the “Hikka Fest”.
