Arugam Bay is conveniently situated in the South-East Coast of Sri Lanka. The area is blessed with lagoons and wetlands as well as rich in bird and wildlife. It’s unique climate has below average rain fall compared to the rest of the island. Arugam Bay is popular for it’s beautiful waves but was inaccessible (out of safe zone) due to the war between the local government and the terrorists. Arugam Bay was also a victim of 2004 boxing day tsunami. However, since 2009 May a new breed of surfers started emerging in East coast of Sri Lanka and Arugam Bay is currently booming in development. It is not unusual to see many of world renowned pro surfers and local surfers showing their talents across the sandy beaches in Arugam Bay.
